At those times, I may not want to walk up to my desk, grab the mouse and then click through menus just to save a few Watts. It&#8217;d be great if I could ask Siri to do this for me. I&#8217;m not lazy, I&#8217;m efficient!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To do this, I had hoped that there was an easy way to do it and after some digging around &#8212; it really was very straight forward. Here&#8217;s how I did it:<\/p>\n<h1>Step 1 &#8211; On your Mac &#8211; Enable &#8220;Remote Login&#8221;<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sharing-remote-login.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-437 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sharing-remote-login-460x365.png\" alt=\"Screen shot of sharing screen from system preferences\" width=\"460\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sharing-remote-login-460x365.png 460w, https:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Sharing-remote-login.png 670w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On your mac, open <strong>System Preferences<\/strong> and then <strong>Sharing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Once there, click on the <strong>Remote Login<\/strong> check box.<\/li>\n<li>Make a note of the name for your mac on your local network. You&#8217;ll need this in the next step.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Step 2 &#8211; Create the Siri Shortcut on your iPhone or iPad<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_1635.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-438\" src=\"http:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_1635-169x365.png\" alt=\"Screen shot of ssh shortcut on iPhone\" width=\"169\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_1635-169x365.png 169w, https:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_1635-768x1663.png 768w, https:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_1635-388x840.png 388w, https:\/\/www.casler.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_1635.png 1125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Shortcuts on your phone or tablet.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the <strong>+<\/strong> on the top right to create a new shortcut.<\/li>\n<li>Name the new shortcut whatever you&#8217;d like to use &#8212; I&#8217;ve selected &#8220;<strong>Turn off the display<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>Add Action,<\/strong>&nbsp;search for &#8220;<strong>ssh<\/strong>&#8221; and click &#8220;<strong>Run Script Over SSH<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Once the action is selected, click on &#8220;<strong>Show more<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the following fields:\n<ul>\n<li>Host &#8211; You can either use the hostname from Step 1 or if you know it, your Mac&#8217;s IP address.<\/li>\n<li>User &#8211; Your username on your mac<\/li>\n<li>Password &#8211; Your password on your mac<\/li>\n<li>Script &#8211; <strong>pmset displaysleepnow<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Done<\/strong> on the top right<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first time you ask siri to turn off the display, it will prompt you to accept security keys. Say yes to that and you&#8217;re all set.
